Shadows

Well, I got the Project Vanquish shadowing to work right with the instanced trees.  It'd had been more or less working with the terrain.  Turns out the problem, as I thought, was in the shadow map, or lack of resolution there of... 


It works fine at small distances, but when trying to cover the whole terrain it basically blurs out.  If I lowered the max view distance from 1500 to 100 it just works.

But at 500, you can see problems starting:


Bump that up to 1000 or 1500 and the tree shadows are blurred out of existence.  The terrain shadows remain, but they aren't completely accurate.

I think I need to look into some other technique, or cascaded shadow maps.  But now that I know I'm not actually doing anything wrong it seems less urgent.  (And yes, I changed the trees again.  A full, actual model, instanced).
